the book of days

hope in the face of defeat

sadly not a complete reversal of a heavily embedded mindset but in fact a reflection on the book of days... yes truly i have failed to keep up with this day by day enigma of a project, it started so well but quickly took a turn for the worse

my days got busier, my mood got worse and the days themselves seemed unable to find a happy balance between 'overly prescriptive' and 'not a hope in hell of making any sense out of this one' which is a pity. based on their blogs it doesn't look like many people have been pushing through with the project... even naomi?

anyway the hope... well july's just ahead of us and already plans are building for a slightly more informal interpretation of the book of days concept... only this one has letters... 26 of them in fact so the end of the month might have to go out... and what shall we call this book of letters? well, a dictionary of course

the book of days

to avoid confusion i'm creating this semi-*sticky* post about the book of days... this is the mysterious title given to an exciting project that my friend naomi came up with. for every day of june there is a theme/title/challenge that we must aspire to achieve... try 5 new foods, have a mud bath, fall in love... have a look through the Book of Days sections for the complete lowdown... ooh, and have a look at Liz, Bex and Naomi's blogs too!

silence

whilst i have no doubt been silent for much of the day i pulled off a full minute's silence in a room of chatting people which i found surprisingly hard... and in contrast had quite a loud afternoon at the arbury carnival and watching england kick off their world cup bid on parkers piece (yes, yes, i know... they were in germany)

flannel

i could have done with a flannel to mop up the sweat from the sb fundraiser... and the tears of the sleepless night that followed

upside down

well arguably i covered the whole upside down in my call for social revolution that we shall call the 'the free rider effect' post... though i did also fiddle with my monitor settings and have my work desktop upside down for a few minutes... a tad confusing.

plus in the evening we briefly experimented with looking at people's faces upside down and i had a listen to of the phenomenal 'Upside Down' by the A*Teens, though sadly I never got round to making the exciting music video for it i thought i might.

Job mediocrely done

learn as much as you can in half a day about a sort of human love of your choice...

...(romnantic, filial, platonic etc) and then determine how much of what you learn you believe

wow... well that's quite a mouthful... and painfully specific... I tried to employ the post modern interpretive skills of mr lee but even he couldn't unravel this challenge and make it other than a painfully dictated exercise, oh well.

sadly i didn't have half a day to spare, so urm, i condensed it into a five minute read of the Wikipedia section on 'romantic love' from which that we can conclude that romance was invented a few hundred years ago and prior to that we all obeyed the mating urges that our body had sorted for us.

urm, or married within our class right? of course a degree in social psychology told me this already...

anyway, i actually spent much longer reading about the 'seduction community' which was linked to in the article... a loose-knit online community of men who aim to improve their success with women, through self-improvement and a greater understanding of social psychology

very interesting, i think i might join... geeky guys get hot chicks by using classing techniques such as the 'Negg' - it might just be time to get myself a book/DVD

this is Neil Straus aka Style who not only could sort out my love life but could shadow write my biography in the process... talented man:

i saw this and thought of you

ahh so this is my day... one of about 10 i initially thought up and threw at naomi... truth is the date order wasn't completely random either and i specifically asked to be on the 06/06/06... good datage!

one of the joys of my youth (and how joyous it must thus have been) was writing exciting dates in exciting ways so the prospect of writing today's date was devilishly good... but without any work to date it seemed unlikely that i'd get the chance

so i figured i'd make everyone write letters, then we'd all write the date and be hap hap hap hap happy! but i didn't want to be too prescriptive and ended up with the current title which was once used by the post office in their adverts...

speaking of which, i had a marketing exam this morning and got to write the date a number of times... so i generally gave up on letters and just concentrated on the saw this and thought of people part... i did in fact put £20 in my wallet and then wander around various cambridge shops, and this is what i got:

Kate O'Brien accompanied me on some of the quest and cheekily made the association herself between these chocolates and herself...

Verity on the other hand scored herself a copy of eurovision winning Lordi who's hell raising anthem was released today...

Meanwhile I got my brother a packet of fit licorice which I know he's a fan of... ooh and I also found him a good birthday card and my dad a fathers day one.

I then thought of myself for a while and bought a gorgeous ice cream scoop and some top trumps, which we broke in in the sun, though i did lose rather...

I also bought Vicky a rainbow patterned automatic pencil and similarly decorated (but arguably unnecessary) pencil sharpner...

and Liz a very exciting mini chocolate selection from Hotel Chocolat... complete with smiley faces on some of the sweets...

plus whilst boshing through i found an 'extra choc' mars milk drink which of course made me think of suzy...

and coincidentally Verity saw the German album 'Starmania: Best of finals' and thought of me

such a lot of joy there is in gifts huh?

ooh, and the exam didn't go too badly... plus i got to hang out all day doing very little with lovely people, and did my old favorite of dropping in on the church office for a chat!

job done!
